My Sewing Room FAVORITES

Updated: Dec 10, 2025

Here are some of my FAVORITE sewing room gadgets. My sewing room and the tools in it get A LOT of use on a daily basis. The constant use has given me a lot of opportunity to throughly test many gadgets and tools. Here is the coveted list of my favorite tools.

Want to know what my favorite "beginner friendly" sewing machines are, you can check them out HERE. While they are all beginner friendly sewing machines, they also work great for experienced sewists and seamsters too!

Kai (5210) 8" Dressmaker Shears are my go-to scissors. They are affordable and durable. They are easy for both kids and adults to open and close easily. They even make left-handed shears as well.

Frixion Heat Erasable Markers are amazing! After marking your fabric, you simply iron away the marks. With kids, you might even draw stitch lines on fabrics to help them while they are learning, then simply iron away the lines after they have stitched over it. They can occasionally leave "ghosting" on some fabrics, so make sure to test before using.

EverSewn Pin Magnets are a great addition to my studio. They are cute, durable, and easy to use. While I have many different pin magnets, these ones are just my favorite. Perhaps the color just speaks to me.

Dritz Seam-Fix Seam Ripper is a great tool. I like that it is big and easy to hold. The white rubber tip helps to remove the bajillion bits of thread left behind after ripping out a seam. The only thing that would make this tool even better would be if the lid nestled on the back end of the ripper while using.

Dritz Sewing Gauge is very simple and easy to read. This is why this is the clear winner of seam gauges in my studio. Kids can easily see the line to find whatever measurement they are needing.

Acrylic (clear) Seam Gauge

These clear acrylic seam gauges are a new addition to my list. I bought a few of these for my students to try, and thy are a hit! The clear plastic makes it easy for my younger students to place it correctly to get the perfect measurement. This doesn't replace the standard seam guage (listed above) but it is great when using it to measure anything under 1".

Sew-ology Sewing & Quilting Pins are my absolute favorite pins. They are super easy for kids to easily use. In the even that one falls to the ground, they are easy to spot and pick up too. Bonus points for being absolutely ADORABLE looking pins.

Janome Finger Guard is a complet finger saver! I cannot recommend this enough. It fits on most home machines and helps to protect fingers from getting sewn. I strongly recommend this for children that are sewing on a sewing machine.
